President of Uzbekistan signed a decree on 5 January on additional measures to improve the passport system in the country.
The aim of the decree is to further improve the issuance and exchange of passports of citizens of Uzbekistan, as well as travel documents of individuals without citizenship in accordance with international standards and requirements.
The head of the state approved the Regulations on the passport system in Uzbekistan and the Regulations on biometric travel documents of individuals without citizenship of Uzbekistan.
According to the decree, the current Regulations on the passport system in Uzbekistan, approved by President’s decree of 26 February 1999, as well as the existing citizens’ passports and identity cards of individuals without citizenship will be valid until 31 December 2015.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been entrusted to inform the foreign governments, the International Civil Aviation Organization and the International Organization for Standardization about the changes in the national passport system.
