Bureau of officer of NATO on communications and interaction with the countries of Central Asia is inaugurated in Tashkent
In Tashkent there took place an opening ceremony of the Bureau of officer of NATO on communications and interaction with the countries of Central Asia. It was attended by NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai, who is in Uzbekistan on a two-day visit, heads of diplomatic missions of NATO member countries represented in Uzbekistan and Central Asia, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other State bodies of the Republic.Welcoming the participants, James Appathurai expressed gratitude to the Government of Uzbekistan for warm and cordial reception given to Bureau of liaison and cooperation in the region. He stressed that his discovery is evidence of the commitment to development of the long-term partner relations with the countries of Central Asia.
- This region is strategically important - he said - so we will be here and to work with partners through this office.
Head of the Bureau of NATO Liaison Officer and interaction with Central Asian countries is Alexander VINNIKOV . He will serve as a diplomatic representative on the fields and will promote practical cooperation with NATO partners in the region in various areas , including defense planning and analysis , supporting NATO operations , military education and training, civil emergency planning, cooperation on scientific and environmental matters, and public diplomacy.The issue of opening representative offices in Tashkent NATO in Central Asia was discussed in January 2011 during the visit of President Islam Karimov to Brussels and his meeting with the Secretary General of the organization Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
